November Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Amy Gutierrez for being named the Athlete of the Month.  Amy is as consistent as they come at 5:30 am, she constantly pushes herself to do more, and is willing to try and learn new things that challenge her.  We are fortunate to have Amy at our gym!

 

 

Please tell us about yourself.

    I’m a proud mother of 4 wonderful kiddos. Live, work and play in Garfield County.

 

When did you become a member at Defiance West?

    I became a member in July of 2016.

 

What made you join Defiance West and why do you do it now?

    I began going as an initial birthday gift and continue going because it makes me feel strong, healthy and good about myself.

 

What were your thoughts after your first workout?

    I though what did I get myself into?!

 

What is your athletic background?

    I used to play basketball and do track

 

What is your favorite movement or workout?

    I would have to say my favorites are squats and back squats.

 

What is your least favorite?

    I don’t really have a least favorite but if I have to choose i’d say burpees.

 

What has been your favorite or proudest moment since joining?

    My proudest moment would have to be completing the spartan race that I went to with my fellow Defiance-Westers. I love that we are a tight knit community and that we encourage each other at all times.

 

How has Defiance West changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness?

    Defiance has helped me be more disciplined towards my exercising and eating habits.

 

What are your fitness goals for this year?

    My fitness goal for this year would be to finally be able to do kipping pull-ups.

 

What is something most people don’t know about you?

    I grew up being the youngest of 3 along with my 2 older brothers, that’s what made me strong!

 

What advice would you give to people looking to get started at our gym?

    My advice for people is get up and go! No one is going to do it for you so you have to start and commit to it yourself in the end you will be rewarded by feeling good physically, mentally and spiritually.
