December Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Em Bosman for being named the December Athlete of the Month. Em works hard everyday, is constantly working on improving her movement, and makes class more fun when she is there. We are lucky to have her at the gym!

  1. Please tell us about yourself. I’m originally from Iowa and moved out to the Western Slope a couple years ago. I teach science at Coal Ridge High School. I live with 2 of the best roommates in the entire world.

  2. When did you become a member at Defiance West? May 2017

  3. What made you join Defiance West and why do you do it now? I didn’t even know I needed the community that the gym has given me, until I found it. I came with Bobbie and everyone was so welcoming and encouraging. The people and coaches at the gym are why I keep coming back.

  4. What were your thoughts after your first workout? My first workout was Murph. There was a crazy girl that did it in a vest (turns out it was Camille) and still smiling at the end. My first thought was, I want to be as strong as that chick someday, also, these people are absolutely crazy for paying to suffer like this.

  5. What is your athletic background? I played softball and basketball in high school, other than that I’ll play any sport someone wants to play with me.

  6. What is your favorite movement or workout? Squat Cleans, any workout with a Barbell or Wallballs

  7. What is your least favorite? Probably double-unders

  8. What has been your favorite or proudest moment since joining? My proudest moment so far is the team competition Camille and I did in Junction. I’m proud of that because we never quit, we stuck with our game plan, we still went ham on the last workout and most important we had a blast. It’s also fun having so many great people to compete next to and be proud of!

  9. How has Defiance West changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness? I was really unhappy when I first started the gym, and also didn’t have a lot of friends. Since starting the gym I’ve gained some of the best friends I’ve ever had, I switched careers to teaching and started working at CRFR, and I started eating so much cleaner. At risk of sounding dramatic, this gym has saved my life, or at least my quality of life.

  10. What are your fitness goals for this year? My goal is to be the fittest fire/EMT woman in the Valley, maybe someday even fittest female first responder in Colorado.

  11. What is something most people don’t know about you? I have big ol’ bunions on both feet =)

  12. What advice would you give to people looking to get started at our gym? Just keep showing up and trust the coaches.
