March Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Ben Coon for being named the March Athlete of the Month. He is as consistent as they come and has come a long way since he joined our gym a few years ago. Ben always work hard and has done a great job working on technique. Thank you for making our gym a better place.

  1. Please tell us about yourself. First, thank you for the recognition, Cory and Cierra. My name is Benjamin Coon. I am just a good ole boy from the streets of Sheridan, Wyoming. I am the proud father of three amazing children, and the fortunate husband to the most wonderful woman in the world. I am a dentist and have been known to share some “fun dental facts” every Friday morning.

  2. When did you become a member at Defiance West? Labor Day 2016

  3. What made you join Defiance West and why do you do it now? My wife joined the gym first. I was unsure how I felt about my wife getting stronger than me. I joined Defiance West, only to find my wife is one of many women stronger than me. I keep coming back because I enjoy the variety. I enjoy the people.

  4. What were your thoughts after your first workout? Bike sprints and sled pushes…can’t wait to do it again.

  5. What is your athletic background? I played ball sports in high school. I enjoy riding a mountain bike and a snowboard in my free time.

  6. What is your favorite movement or workout? I like most barbell lifts. Power cleans are my favorite. “Macho Man” is my favorite workout, but I think the name has a lot to do with it.

  7. What is your least favorite? I am working on double unders, and I need to get more efficient on the row machine.

  8. What has been your favorite or proudest moment since joining? Before I joined the gym, I could not do a single pull-up. I remember getting my first pull-up. That being said, my proudest moment was joining the 500 club.

  9. How has Defiance West changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness? My bed time has changed from 10 to 8. I get up earlier in the morning. I am more aware of what I consume. I try to focus on being more positive. I’m 40, but I feel like I’m as in good as shape as I was in my 20’s.

  10. What are your fitness goals for this year? Muscle-ups and double unders.

  11. What is something most people don’t know about you? I was a stunt double for Fred Savage in the ”Wonder Years” as a child.

  12. What advice would you give to people looking to get started at our gym? You will get out, what you put in. You will sweat. You will meet some great people, and you will not regret it.
