July Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to John Jenick for being name the Athlete of the Month for July. John has improved tremendously in the time he has been with us, he consistently works hard, and he always leaves with a smile followed by the comment, " that was a good one." Thank you for making the gym a better place.

Please tell us about yourself.

I have lived in Colorado for 18 years, originally from Michigan. Married to Dana, 6 kids (2 dogs, 1 horse, 1 mule, 2 cats).

When did you become a member at Defiance West?

What made you join Defiance West and why do you do it now?

Dana had me come to about 5 Saturday fun, team workouts, and then she told me I had a membership so I started to show up regularly. I really enjoy the people and our friends who we workout with. Everybody helps everybody. I also like the “question of the day” and getting to know everyone with their answers.

What were your thoughts after your first workout?

I am not a “gym” guy, but I really enjoyed the workouts, I was surprised how fun it was in addition to a very supportive group of people. Good coaching and I needed that!

What is your athletic background?

I used to do a lot of running.

What is your favorite movement or workout?

Murph. I like the Memorial Day “Murph”. The other athletes work so hard, I appreciate honoring the soldiers. It is a fun, energetic atmosphere on that day.

What is your least favorite?

Toes to bar because I cannot do them….at all.

What has been your favorite or proudest moment since joining?

Learning how to jump rope, now working on double-unders.

How has Defiance West changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness?

My level of fitness has improved so much, it is hard to describe since I have never done any of this my entire life. I really like being in good shape and strong. The workouts make my favorite past time more fun….snowmobiling! Can’t wait for winter!!

What are your fitness goals for this year?

Get better at executing the moves correctly. Keep getting better.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

Before we moved to Colorado I was a professional drag racer.

What advice would you give to people looking to get started at our gym?

The coaches are very caring and work with you to achieve you goals. Come to one class, give it a try, you will like it and be hooked for life and then you can drink more beer!
