September Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Brackett Pollard for being the September Athlete of the Month. Brackett works hard, doesn't make excuses, and entertains us daily with his answers to the question of the day. Thank you Brackett for being apart of our gym and making it a better place.

1. Please tell us about yourself.

First and foremost thanks Cory for the accolade. I am a long time resident of the Colorado River valley, A husband to Courtney and father to 2 sweet little cowgirls and one on her way. I am fortunate to be able to grow one of Americas most exceptional proteins, in one of the best places on earth, Beef.

2. When did you become a member at Defiance West?

September 2016

3. What made you join Defiance West and why do you do it now?

I have known Cory and Miss Cierra from way back in the Clearly Crossfit days. I had heard the House’s were running the gym in New Castle and wanted to give it try. I have never once regretted it. I workout now because it is a great way to start off my day. I get sore if I don’t.

4. What were your thoughts after your first workout?

My first workout was back in a tent city gym at an air base in Iraq, my first though was I just ruined my jump shot. After returning back to the US it was almost five years before I ever found another Crossfit gym.

5. What is your athletic background?

Mostly Basketball and a few 5K’s

6. What is your favorite movement or workout?

I straight up love a HeroWOD if it was up to me we would do Murph every Monday. Just to shake the rust off.

7. What is your least favorite?

At this point I have learned to embrace the suck in life and therefore I enjoy them all.

8. What has been your favorite or proudest moment since joining?

I literally enjoy it every time I step in the gym. My favorite moments are when I see other people giving it everything they have. I love watching people suffer through a workout, like when Ben was cramping during the open. I loved that.

9. How has Defiance West changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness?

I feel like over the last year I have become more aware of what I'm doing outside the gym. I primarily used to workout because I felt so guilty for my eating and drinking habits, The gym has helped me with my sobriety. I feel like I am in the best shape of my life now.

10. What are your fitness goals for this year?

At this point in my life I don't really have fitness goals it more about getting in a good sweat to kinda help me keep my days on track and be the best version of myself. I guess now that I think of it I would like to start routinely beating JA during our morning duels.

11. What is something most people don’t know about you?

I suppose that I might come across as hillbilly and what most people don't know is that I'm not really that hillbilly.

12.What advice would you give to people looking to get started at our gym?

So here is the thing, there are plenty of reasons to get rolling at DW just pick one and get going. For me its a cheap hobby. If your significant other thinks its to expensive tell them you will start hunting, golfing, boating etc....instead, it works for me.
